Today, April 1, 2022, is a day to be cautious. You might be tricked by an April Fool’s joke.

But the news article published today in the Daily Hampshire Gazette about our organization is no joke. The headline “Funeral Consumers Alliance marks 60 years of serving region” is accurate and we appreciate the coverage. Five members of our Board of Trustees (see photo below) did gather in March to celebrate the anniversary.

Organized informally in 1959 before official incorporation as a nonprofit in March 1962, our volunteers have been sharing reliable information about funeral options and related consumer rights for over 60 years. We work to inform the public, encouraging people to think carefully about what they want (and don’t want) for final arrangements. We aim to help them reject misleading advertising and hype.

Below, for example, is a screen shot of something that is VERY MISLEADING. It almost fooled one of our members this week – until we looked behind the curtain (its clever website) and confirmed that this is NOT a reliable Massachusetts company, nor is it a wise way to seek cremation services in any state. (Colorado shut it down as a scam.)

Caution: The words read very well, but WHERE is the company behind this? For instance, if you live in Gill, MA, is it near you? They claim to serve every town. See next image for Gill, MA — which seems to be written by a robot. We know there are NO funeral homes in Gill, MA.

Don’t be FOOLED by this nonsense! Avoid “Heritage” — just a broker working remotely.
