Green Burial Massachusetts (GBM) welcomes a new president, Elizabeth Cardaropoli, and thanks outgoing president Judith Lorei, who has led GBM since its official incorporation in 2016.
GBM evolved from a committee within our organization (FCAWM) with participants also from the FCA of Eastern Massachusetts. Many of our members helped with GBM’s survey of cemeteries, a on-going project identifying which cemeteries in this state allow green burial. The resulting searchable online database on the GBM website is a valuable resource. Additional volunteers would be welcomed, to gather information for cemeteries not yet in this database. Visit GBM’s website for more information.
Under Judith’s leadership, and with help from the public requesting environmentally-friendly options, more cemeteries now are allowing green burial. Thirty (30) towns in Massachusetts now have cemeteries allowing green burial. This is a huge increase from only 2 in 2014.
