Death Cafés have come to Massachusetts. This movement started in Europe, and now is spreading worldwide. See deathcafe.com. “At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. The objective is ‘to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.’ A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.”

We announced (on our News & Events page) these three Death Cafés in MA in March 2014:

I attended the Amherst one, and had previously attended one hosted by Peg Lorenz in central Massachusetts (February 2). I enjoyed both. My purpose in attending was to learn about Death Cafés and consider whether FCAWM might host such in the future. Our colleagues in FCAEM (serving eastern Mass) recommend doing so.

If YOU want to attend a Death Café, visit deathcafe.com and look for upcoming dates and locations. (You can search by zip code). For instance, searching for ones near 01040 (Holyoke) brought up “Death Cafe Western MA” for April 19 in Florence, MA.
