Consumers deserve affordable funerals
When "Dear Abby" ran information about state-specific funeral consumer rights in her column March 23rd, thousands responded to the information available through the Funeral Ethics Organization.
As another organization dedicated to protecting a consumer's right to choose meaningful, dignified, affordable final arrangements, we'd like to let your readers know about the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Western Massachusetts.
One of the services we offer is a comparative funeral price survey. We post the results on our website, sortable by county (Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin and Berkshire), town, name of funeral home, or by the cost of specific services. We are now collecting the 2012 price data. Volunteers are always welcome.
We are a nonprofit educational organization, independent of the funeral industry. We encourage communication and advance planning within families, and provide neutral information about rights and options, including green burial.
